Stress fractures in the other metatarsals are less common, although they do occur. As a result, this places a greater load on the 2nd metatarsal. This is because the first metatarsal bone is in a dorsiflexed (foot pointing upwards) position. It is also more common for those feet to roll in too much or flatten ( overpronate). And one key over from that is a dedicated power button, just to the left of the delete key in the right corner. The F12 key is customizable, while the key to the right activates a physical shutter for the webcam. The company has obviously put some thought into that top row, though. Oranges also have slightly more fiber than tangerines, making them a very good source of this beneficial carbohydrate. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps support connective tissues including skin, blood vessels and bones ( 6). One notable difference between the nutrient profile of tangerines versus oranges is that oranges have more than double the amount of vitamin C. They also contain a few more grams of carbs. However, tangerines tend to have slightly more calories per serving. Overall, tangerines and oranges have similar nutrient profiles. Most orange varieties are yellowish-orange, while tangerines are more reddish-orange. Oranges are larger and more rounded than tangerines. Oranges are typically more yellow-orange, except for the blood orange, which has a dark red color.Īlthough tangerines are similar in color to most orange varieties, they are typically more reddish-orange. Lastly, tangerines and oranges can differ in color. For example, navel oranges are seedless, while Valencia oranges have seeds. Tangerines are also softer to the touch when ripe, while oranges are usually firm and heavy when ripe.īoth tangerines and oranges range from having many seeds to being seedless, depending on the variety. Sometimes referred to as “baby oranges,” tangerines are smaller, somewhat flattened and generally less rounded, making them a perfect pocket-sized snack. However, as a rule of thumb, oranges grow to a larger size than tangerines. Oranges come in different sizes and slightly different shapes, depending on the variety. Manage Print Subscription / Tax Receipt. And if I was looking for fashion as a key component of content, I would want more than just a few pages.Ĭlear editorial guidelines based on both organizational strategy and audience understanding are essential for maintaining a consistent brand in all platforms of content. I don’t buy fashion magazines because those are not topics that interest me, but even if I was interested in fashion, I wouldn’t expect to find it in a magazine that has “homes” and “gardens” as the defining words on the cover. These are not topics that I expect in the magazine and it is perplexing to me as a reader to have a few pages that don’t seem to fit the editorial grid. They still emphasize home and garden topics, but they have added a few pages of fashion and makeup. Such editorial discipline also means that readers know what to expect in terms of content topics, which builds audience loyalty.Ī magazine that I read from time to time has recently changed their editorial focus. Rather than a smattering of different topics, unrelated to each other or the organizational purpose, editors can seek the highest quality of content that specifically fits into the strategy of the organization. ![]() Editors and content writers should always be asking what the audience wants and expects from the organization, and how the content can meet and exceed audience expectations.Ĭlarity in the organizational purpose of content focuses the efforts of content creators and editors. Audiences change over time, so this process is not a one-time effort. If an organization has several audience segments, then clearly understanding the nuances of each segment is important for making sure the segment perceives a strong affinity with the organization. Understanding the audience is an ongoing process, but includes conversations, focus groups, statistical data, anthropological research, continuous observation and listening. The starting point for an effective editorial grid is a clear understanding of the needs of the target audience and the organizational purpose of content (such as to inform, instruct, inspire, motivate or other purpose). The Color-Based Instagram Grid approach goes beyond simply knowing your brand aesthetic. The images are limited to a selected filter or color palette: pastels, black and white, all one color, earth tones etc. That doesn’t mean that every content platform within an organization will have exactly the same editorial grid, but differences in content tone, type and subject matter on various platforms should be based on strategic decisions about audience and purpose, not editorial whim. Imagine the freedom of the No-Grid Instagram Grid Layout, but with a visual continuity throughout the photos. Adherence to an editorial grid is important for magazines, e-newsletters, websites, social media, books and any type of content. An editorial grid is developed based on a clear understanding of organizational vision and strategy, and the purpose of content within the organization. Having an editorial grid simplifies the content development process, because it is clear what types of content should be included and what doesn’t fit in the grid and should be rejected. ![]() ![]() ![]() They both exist and are both completely free to download and use. ![]() Speaking of mobile, they have both their normal Pixlr basic version, and the Pixlr-O-Matic, available on the app store. It, too, is free, and works both on desktops and mobile. The Pixlr-O-Matic desktop app is sort of like an Instagram app, allowing you to add borders, filters, and other quick adjustments to images without having to open up one of the more advanced apps. It’s available on the fly for quick adjustments, though, and sometimes that’s all you need. There’s also the free Pixlr Express web app, that gives you a bunch of basic features in an easy to use web app, but isn’t nearly so robust as the other offerings. The pro version specifically includes masked effects, the influence panel, double exposures, color channels and a few text features. The cost is extremely low, though, so it’s not going to break the bank. You can download a free version, but some of the features, like text masking, are only available in the paid pro version. The more guided Pixlr for Desktop is a downloadable application that costs a mere $15 per year, or $2 monthly if you want to go that route. It’s perfectly free to use, and is the least guided, most Photoshop-like experience. The Pixlr Photo Editor is the most robust and free-form piece of software, and it’s the one that I linked above. There are several different apps included with Pixlr’s offerings, and each of them have different features and price points. Yes, I know, I just talked about how the primary downside to Canva is the price, and here I am telling you about another paid option. Pixlr specifically advertises over 100 effects, 340 overlays, 200 borders, and a whole host of features that combine with them to give you millions of possible combinations. It’s all very Canva-like, but you don’t have to use their library of paid images, you can use any image you can upload. You can refine images, add effects to them, overlay them, add stickers and borders, stylize them, add type and so forth. Sure, it has a lot of functions that look like Photoshop, but it’s also a much more guided experience.īoth the mobile app and the desktop app have a lot of guided functions similar to Canva. Given that I just spent two paragraphs railing on Photoshop, it seems odd that I would them recommend an online PS clone, right? Well, that’s because I’m not. If you’re using the basic web app, everything looks very much like Photoshop. The phone and tablet app is available on both the Apple app store and the Google Play store. You can also use Pixlr on a mobile device. You can create a new blank image, you can upload an image from your computer, you can plug in a link to an image you found online and have the rights to use, and you can even open an image from a library on Pixlr, Facebook or a Google account. When you click the link, you’re presented with a very Photoshop-esque interface and a lightbox with a few options. You can find the Pixlr editor here, on their site. Not All is Perfect in Paradise All About Pixlr There are dozens of alternatives out there, but the one I’ve picked up the most recently is the Pixlr editor. Even if you use Canva enough that the costs would be reasonable, Photoshop has such a high learning curve that the time lost more than makes up for the savings. I doubt anyone using a free app with an average of $5 per transaction is going to want to shell out the high monthly costs for the Adobe Creative Suite. Which is better? Paying $100 to get a commercial license to a photo you’ll use once, or paying $1 through Canva to use it each time you want to use it? Chances are you aren’t going to use the image more than once or twice anyways.Ī lot of times, when you look around for an alternative to something like Canva, you see lists of expensive programs. It gives you access to professional design and imagery that you would otherwise have to pay quite a bit to license. This is fine, it’s a great business model for Canva. Most of the images, some of the fonts, a lot of the objects and many of the templates are all locked behind payments. In the case of Canva, those extras aren’t optional. It’s free the same way that Candy Crush Saga is free you can use it, but to get the most out of it, you need to pay for the extras. It’s free to register and free to use, but that’s misleading. The big drawback to Canva’s model, though, is the cost. You can mix and match all of this to your satisfaction, to create images that look professionally designed without any design experience. ![]() You have images, you have text and fonts, you have objects, and you have templates. So, you have to know why do you need it for, and search for the extractor that supports the features you need. There are a few important things to pay attention to but you have to analyze your needs first. What to Look for When Buying an HDMI Extractor? Best HDMI Audio Extractors – Comparison Table HDMI Audio Extractors Some extractors support 4K/60Hz pass-thru, HDCP 2.2, and HDR, while others support 4K/30Hz, 1080p resolution (or even lower). When it comes to those with audio outputs only, you have extractors with analog stereo outputs only (only AUX and RCA outputs) and those supporting surround sound (they also have digital audio outputs).Įxtractors with HDMI outputs usually have both analog and digital audio outputs but they are not all the same. HDMI audio extractors can be divided into two large groups – those with audio outputs only (optical, coaxial, AUX, RCA) and those with audio and video (HDMI) outputs. In this case, the extractor serves as a switch between different devices. Since most projectors don’t have audio extractors or, in some cases, they have only AUX or RCA audio outputs, you need an audio extractor to separate the signal coming from the Blu-ray player, and then send video to the projector and send audio to your AV receiver (or to your powered stereo speakers).Īlso, if you want to connect all kinds of equipment (gaming consoles, TV sticks, cable boxes, etc.) to your TV but don’t have enough HDMI inputs, using an extractor with multiple HDMI inputs and one HDMI output, is an affordable and efficient solution. HDMI audio extractor can come in handy when building a large home theater system with a Blu-ray player, projector, and a 5.1 surround sound speaker system (or a powered stereo speaker system). The characteristics and capabilities of the extractors mostly depend on the price. Also, some extractors output only stereo sound while other extractors can output both stereo and surround sound. Some HDMI extractors can output both audio and video, while others output only audio. They can separate the audio from the video and send it to the audio output device (like a speaker system) or to some other device that has no HDMI inputs ( AV or stereo receiver, Bluetooth transmitter, etc.).
